Neat spot with Japanese goods! They have wide selection from keychains, off the shelf food, microwaveable food, popular drinks, ice cream and frozen food Small store but packs a lot!

Great little neighborhood spot. I usually stop in for their Onigiri (which is great) and milk tea. Workers are nice. $10 minimum on cards.

I ventured over to Sunnyside, driven by a craving for dango like the ones I found at a random Japanese grocery market in Boston. The dango in Boston was chewy, mild in flavor (some might even say bland), and somewhat sweet--the perfect chewy goodness and the epitome of not-too-sweet. I've been eating mochi to deal with this craving, but alas, that has not sufficed--I hated the sweet red bean filling and wanted something entirely mild and chewy. Now that the stage has been set... Enter Taiyo Foods (my hero!)--a small, cramped space bursting with every Japanese item you could ever need. Despite its size, Taiyo Foods packs a punch. They even have sushi-grade sashimi, onigiri, and, most importantly for me, the dangos I was craving. It's like a tiny treasure chest of Japanese goodies. Automatic 5 stars for me!

A review update is in order - I have frequented this store many more times over the last year and really enjoy their selection. I always find several things to buy on every visit. When available, I almost always get the spam musubi and one time they even made it fresh for me when they didn't have any out yet which was super nice. On one of my more recent visits I tried a popular Japanese sports drink called Pocari Sweat - it has a light grapefruit flavor and is very refreshing. It's even available in powder form to make a pitcher at home so I also bought one of those to try out. There's another banana cake that comes in a pack of three that I always like to buy in the cooler section as well but I forget the name. I also really like the Calbee Onion Rings - they're the best of any of the onion ring varieties and super addicting. The Amanoya Himemaru Rice Crackers are really flavorful as well - my favorite is the wasabi but I've also bought the original and soy too. I love anything wasabi although now I question if I've ever had real wasabi after learning that most sushi wasabi is actually Japanese horseradish. Fun fact for ya! Anywho, I love shopping here, and even when unplanned I always find a few things to buy and try to find something new each visit as well.

Small cute Japanese store with a lot of Japanese products. A bit pricey but honestly all Japanese imported products in the US are overpriced so this is fair. Very hard to find parking in the area but the store did have a decent amount of products

After watching a couple Tiktok videos, I had the craving for onigiri. I googled couple places and found something closer to me since I'm in LIC. It's a tiny store in Sunnyside. I walked in and no greeting but I was on a mission. I picked out the spicy tuna, regular tuna, and salmon. The cashier was pleasant at checkout but I saw someone watching me on the right side, when I was making my choices it was a little disappointing, but what can you expect..I'll be back for the spicy tuna and tempura ones..overall they were tasty, the spicy tuna was the best.

Woohoo... Finally found the new location, it's a bit smaller than the original location. I am thrilled for the store to be open. I am thrilled to find this store. There are more ready made food options in this location though no kitchen like in the former location. It's next to several boutique stores on that block. Have to check out the small businesses next time. The store has 2 aisles. Each aisle is narrow but the shelf is stuffed with a lot of products though this store might not have everything, it's good enough. Happy Shopping and eating.

The onigiri here is so amazing! Salmon is my fav filling. Even my kiddo, the pickiest of eaters, loves the salmon onigiri and will sometimes ask for seconds. The other pre made foods are also quite good - oden soup, eel over rice, spam musubi are some of my other go to items. The snack selection is surprisingly extensive considering the space. Always look forward to coming back here and trying something new!

Taiyo Foods is really the only Japanese store in the area. I was so sad that their original space burned down but they are back. It's not a large store but neither was their original location but they have a bit of everything. They pack this store with so much interesting items like cooked foods, snack foods, frozen foods, fresh vegetables, ramen noodles, houseware, cosmetics and so much more. They have such limited space but is able to organize and offer so much. The story is bright clean and friendly. I really like this location much better then their last but most of all I am glad that they are back.
